Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola (USIL) and San Ignacio College—institutions based in Lima, Peru and Miami, Florida, respectively—participated in this year’s EAIE Conference (European Association for International Education) from September 15 to 18 in Glasgow, Scotland. As Europe’s largest international conference on higher education, it brings together more than 5000 participants from over 90 countries annually.
Attending the event were the founding president of USIL, Raúl Diez Canseco Terry; the president of the university, Dr. Ramiro Salas; representatives of the Office of the Vice President of International Relations, and other authorities of the university. The purpose of USIL’s participation was to seek opportunities for partnership and development for international students in Peru, as well as for our students to be able to participate in exchanges with European universities.
During the conference, relations with strategic partners from Mexico, Turkey, Brazil, Austria, Germany, Netherlands, Spain and France, among others, were strengthened for the purpose of fostering academic exchanges between our institution and theirs. Currently, USIL has more than 200 agreements that enable international students to visit the USIL campuses in Lima and Cusco, as well as San Ignacio College in Miami.
In addition, taking advantage of the framework of the conference, several of USIL’s partner universities agreed to apply for funding from the Erasmus program for our students, as well as for faculty and researchers, in order to achieve excellence in education. This would be the first time this program included Latin America, and USIL’s strategic partners selected us to participate in it.
New institutions, especially French universities, also expressed interest in collaborating with San Ignacio College on personalized programs, as ISC Paris, INSEEC and others have been doing.
It is worth mentioning that USIL, the only Peruvian institution to attend the event, has participated in this international fair for several years. During the fair, new agreements were reached with German and Latvian universities.
Lastly, these actions reinforce USIL and San Ignacio College’s international presence. With their participation, they confirm their attendance at EAIE 2016, to be held in Liverpool.
